Discuss the character - likes, dislikes... it's all about Hesse here.

I love James Marsters first and foremost, being a Buffy fan he'll always be Spike to me, but I was happy to see him as the bad guy in the first episode, because let's face it- he plays the role so well. Now I will never presume to know difficult it is to portray a different nationality but James' Irish accent left a lot to be desired... I found he kept dipping in and out of his accent. Now I assume, because of the Celtic nature of the accent that it's a difficult one to perfect, but he's not the first unable to master it. I remember seeing The Jackal, and Richard Gere couldn't even pull it off convincingly. However, using James in the role of Hesse was genius because we all knew that - although McGarrett shoots him in the chest at the end of the first episode that - he was going to be back. You don't just get Marsters in for one episode.
